React Inspector is a free Chrome extension developed by hand-dot that allows developers to easily detect React component source code. With just a simple keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+X on Windows or Command+Shift+X on Mac), users can launch the inspector and start inspecting React components.
To use React Inspector, users need to have React Developer Tools installed and be working with development builds. The extension accesses the __REACT_DEVTOOLS_GLOBAL_HOOK__ set globally by React Devtools and identifies the React Fiber in the HTML element that the inspector hovers over. The React Fiber contains valuable information about the source code, which can be opened in an editor for further analysis and development.
One of the key features of React Inspector is its flexibility. Users can customize the "Open in Editor URL" from the extension's options page, allowing them to open the source code in an editor of their choice, other than VSCode.
